Published debates and studies on legal pluralism in the Francophone Pacific:
A number of different texts can be downloaded here (or links to websites are given), sometimes expressing strongly opposed views. Some of these texts have only circulated on the web. Some of the French written texts are here translated in English for the first time (see Thanks and references at the beginning of each text), and will allow the non-francophone readers, from the Pacific (and beyond), researchers and actors of the civil society, to gain an understanding of facts and points of view that were unknown to them or linguistically not accessible in depth. Each file is entitled with the name of the French Collectivity concerned (NC, PF, or WF), the author's name, the abridged title, and the language used (FR or EN). This list will expand as more texts become available.
At this time (October 2014), the texts included here are all about New Caledonia, and mainly address two large topics and current debates :
1---Customary justice (ordinary law [State law]/customary law, various legal statuses of the persons living in NC, debate on codifying a jurisprudential customary law, equality or inequality of treatment in relation to gender, age group, etc.).
2---Citizenship (definition of a « New Caledonian citizenship », linkage to French citizenship, citizenship as the right of vote and the various electoral rolls)
